The Way We Used to Live: Park Hill Sheffield - Archive film with live music

A rare opportunity to see historic, silent film of the Park area of Sheffield before Park Hill ( as we know it today) was built.  The films will be accompanied by live improvised music performed by local musicians,  Chris Finguz and Friendswith recorded memories of residents of Park in the 1950s and earlier.

Shot around 1957, the film provides an insight into the dense housing and tough living conditions for many people living in Park at that time.

There are many shots of the area, some with people doing daily chores and children playing. Streets shown including Shrewsbury Road, Duke Street Lane, Gilbert Street, The Sun Inn, Hague Lane, South St, Stafford Street, Rhodes Street, Talbot Street, Duke Street and many more.

Courtesy of Yorkshire Film Archive, these films are rarely shown in public and and this will the first time they have been seen in Sheffield for many years.
